Kitty Kelley’s take on writing biography, “Unauthorized, But Not Untrue,” appears in the Winter 2011 issue of The American Scholar. Read the article here.
Update 2/1/11: The article has been reposted by NY Social Diary, with more pictures, here.

Ms. Kelley:
I found your article, “Unauthorized, But Not Untrue,” a refreshing and logical read. It is unfortunate that many find your books to be “lies and smears” of the biographies you write. I prefer to read a well researched and well written “unauthorized” biographies like
“Nancy Reagan: The Unauthorized Biography” or
“The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty” rather than an “authorized” biography filled with “huff and fluff” and with the singular purpose of promoting the subject’s celebrity. Keep it up. And how about one about George Soros or Glenn Beck or Jimmy Carter or The Clintons or Nixon, each would be interesting in their own right.
